Tikové poruchy jsou chápány jako spektrum poruch od přechodných tiků až po kombinované projevy motorických a fonačních tiků (Tourettova nemoc). Od historického čistě psychologického výkladu pojmu -neurotický tik- se vysvětlení přesouvá do neurochemických termínů. Terapeutické postupy odrážejí vývoj názorů na vznik nemoci. Je plně akceptován farmakoterapeutický přístup, zatímco psychoterapeutický je chápán jako podpůrný. V přehledu jsou uvedeny základní charakteristiky nemoci a její léčby, jak je přináší světová literatura.
