Práce přehlednou formou uvádí recentní terapeutický postup u dětí s prokázanou těžkou hypertenzí. Stručně jsou akcentovány základní požadavky, které je nutno bezpodmínečně dodržovat při měření krevního tlaku, a to na kterékoliv úrovni péče o dítě. Pokud je hypertenze detekována v ordinaci praktického lékaře pro děti a dorost (PLDD), pak dalším navazujícím diagnostickým krokem je v současné době měření metodou ABPM. Toto měření by mělo zajišťovat dostatečně erudované pediatrické pracoviště. PLDD se může setkat s dětmi a adolescenty, u nichž hodnota krevního tlaku může být výrazně vysoká, a proto i tato skupina pediatrů by měla být seznámena s praktickými zásadami terapie této závažné situace.
