Laryngitis acuta subglotica - Definice: Zánětlivý otok v subglotickém prostoru při akutní virové infekci, který může vést k náhle vzniklému dušení při vdechu.

Epiglotitis acuta - Etiologie: Flegmóna příklopky hrtanové, invazívní hemofilová infekce téměř výhradně vyvolaná Haemophilus influenzae, sérotyp b u dětí do 5 let věku, což je věkové období s nízkou protihemofilovou baktericidií séra pro deficit IgG 2.
