Syncope - classification and aetiopathogenesis - Part I

The increase in the frequency of syncope, a state in which a temporary loss of postural tone is accompanied by a loss of consciousness, might be linked to the changed lifestyle of the younger generation. The decrease of physical activity and a sedentary lifestyle, often in combination with a considerable negative interference in lifestyle regimen, significantly contribute to the development of cardiovascular dysregulation presenting with a host of subjective and objective symptoms. This presenting symptomatology could conceal very serious medical conditions which may require urgent therapy. With this in mind the authors point out some diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for use in the evaluation of patients presenting with syncope and comment on the possibilities which their medical and regimens may influence.
