Řada školních dětí má problémy s poruchou učení nebo chování. Dětský lékař často o těchto problémech neví, rodiče nepovažují za nutné o nich v ordinaci mluvit. Dítě je ze školy odesláno do pedagogicko-psychologické poradny a podle jejích rad je dále postupováno. Pediatr by však měl při preventivních prohlídkách po těchto poruchách aktivně pátrat, provést řádnou diferenciální diagnostiku a podílet se na terapii.
