Syndróm krátkeho čreva je dôsledkom nedostatočného prívodu živín po redukcií absorpčnej plochy čreva. Jednou z jeho príčin je nekrotizujúca enterokolitída (NEC), ktorá je životohrozujúcim stavom s fulminantným priebehom a vysokou úmrtnosťou najmä u predčasne narodených detí. V kazuistike popisujeme prípad dojčaťa s rozsiahlou resekciou tenkého čreva, adaptáciu dieťaťa na perorálnu výživu a jeho vývoj po podávaní aminokyselinovej formuly.
