Vaccination against varicella

Up to 100 000 people can be affected by chickenpox in the Czech Republic each year. The development of vaccination against this disease began more than 30 years ago and routine VZV immunization has been under way in the USA for more than 10 years. Live attenuated ­vaccine against chickenpox is effective and safe. It can be applied in 1-dose regimen since 12 months of age, in 2-dose regimen since 13 years of age. It is contraindicated with systemic hypersensitivity to any compound of the vaccine, in pregnancy, with serious cellular immune deficiencies and with chronic aspirin therapy. Immunization with MMR-VZV tetravaccine can be expected in future.
