Disorders of thyroid gland belong to the most frequent endocrinopathies in children and adolescents. The article gives a brief review on

current knowledge of the pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, diagnostics and treatment of the most common non-oncological thyreopaties

in pediatric clinical practice. In the group of congenital thyreopaties, the attention is paid especially to congenital hypothyroidism,

nevertheless rare but serious congenital hyperthyroidism is discussed as well. The part of the article dealing with acquired thyreopaties

is focussed mostly on autoimmune thyroid diseases. Differential diagnosis of goiter is given and iodine deficiency is mentioned at last.

Keywords: congenital hypothyroidism, chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, Graves-Basedow thyreotoxicosis, goiter, iodine deficiency
