Cystic thyroid nodules in childhood and adolescence are less prevalent but more often malignant than in adulthood. Thyroid ultrasound
is useful, especially in guidance of fine-needle aspiration cytology for optimal results, but presently should not be used for final decisions
on the benign or malignant nature of the nodule. We present a case report of a 14-year-old girl with 5 months history of enlargedleft
thyroid lobe presented with a palpable solitary resistence 3 × 2 cm. Thyroid ultrasonography showed an enlarged left thyroid lobe with
cystic solitary nodule 30 × 25 mm. Doppler scans revealed increased vascularity within the left thyroid lobe nodule. Fine needle aspiration
cytology was non-diagnostic. Histological examination revealed follicular adenoma of thyroid gland. There was no family history of any
cancers, nor a history of exposure to radiation.
