Acute scrotum in children – diagnosis and treatment

Acute scrotum is an emergency that every pediatrician has to face. Differential diagnosis is difficult to distinguish even for an experiencedclinician. Also there are many contradictory facts and recommendations concerning the acute scrotum in the literature.The following article summarizes recent findings and evidence based medicine recommendations without repeating well-knownanatomy and physiology facts. It concentrates upon the contradictory points of diagnosis and management of the acute scrotumin children. The authors based the article on 2015 ESPU guidelines, UpToDate® server, PubMed studies and reviews and their ownclinical experience. The text adheres to ICCS terminology and English terminology where appropriate.
