The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the effectivness of specific probiotics including those added to commercially available baby-milk formula feeding featuring well-designed and carefully conducted randomised controlled clinical trials. They show that probiotics are generally considered safe and affect a wide range of metabolic and immune processes.

Keywords: probiotics, bacterial colonization, breast feeding, baby-milk formula.
