The history of paediatrics and education of pediatric nurses in the Czech republic

The aim of this contribution is to describe the history of pediatric health care and education of pediatric nurses in the Czech Republic from the end of 19th century until today. This research study consists of a thorough theoretical review. To fulfil its aim qualitative research was conducted using the technique of secondary analysis of relevant sources. Information was found in expert scientific publications and Czech legislation. Pediatric nursing care has a long tradition in the Czech Republic with first pediatric hospital “Na křižovatce” in Prague opening already in 1888. Legislation, education and the competence of pediatric nurses and doctors has since undergone many changes. Child medicine is currently one of the key areas regarding illness prevention and maintaining healthy population.
