The article presents partial results of a research survey that examined the possibility of involving parents in pain assessment. We found that from the point of view of nurses, the verbal statement of a child and a parent plays a crucial role, even in preschool and early school age. However, in these age groups it is important to supplement verbal testimony and other assessment tools, including a thorough observation of painful symptoms. The effective participation of the parent in the evaluation is possible only if the parent is sufficiently educated and actively cooperates with the nursing staff. Because a parent usually knows their child well, they can more easily capture changes in their behavior and better understand their child's verbal expression. In addition, the child has confidence in the parent and is more relaxed and communicative in talking to him than in talking to an another person.
