Elements of developmental care for the premature newborn

The development of a premature newborn is influenced not only with the applied therapeutic approach but also with the mana­gement and quality of the provided nursing care. The aim of developmental care for premature newborns is to support the correct development of the newborn and limit the negative impact of stressful interventions. The concept of developmental care assumes individualized approach, uniform attitude of the staff participating upon the care for the newborn, adjustment of the environment, and perception of parents as partners in childcare.
