Major attention was paid within last 20-30 years to the possibility of improving a health status of man by a modulation of intestinal microflora. Intestinal microflora has a great metabolic activity, it changes during life and is an important factor influencing individual’s health. The significance of these microorganisms was omitted for a long time and the interest was nearly solely focus on pathogenic microorganisms, which are causes of different gastrointestinal disorders.

Life style, eating habits, and physical activity significantly influence health of individuals. Vitamins are essential factors of diet influencing growth and development of child organism. The intake of vitamins from diet in growth period and human organism development depends on actual requirements. Insufficient intake of vitamins from diet, limited resorption of vitamins from gastrointestinal tract, or excessive requirement due to an illness or heavy physical exertion might be a cause of development of relative hypovitaminosis. Consumption of sufficient amount of variegated food with fruit and vegetable intake is necessary for adequate intake of vitamins.

The cooperation between paediatricians and pedagogical-psychological advisory centres has its tradition and development and is truly worth of our attention. Community acquired infections represent the greatest part of the therapy in paediatric praxis. More than 70 % of antibiotics are indicated for respiratory infections, less for urinary and skin infections. But the viral infections are often treated by the antibiotics, too. The overview of the most frequent community acquired infections including the indications of treatment by the antibiotics is rendered in this announcement.

Pediatric malignancies are not easily early diagnosed because of their rarity and often non-specific symptomatology. However, early diagnosis is essential for the destiny of a given child, i.e. for the chance to be cured from the cancer. The authors outline here the most common symptoms of pediatric malignancies that can be observed while examining a child during a medical practitioner´s visit with a particular focus on pediatric oncology emergencies. The authors also emphasize the importance and the benefit of prescheduled routine preventive examinations done by the primary care physician.
