Pigment Nevi in Childhood

MUDr. Milena Jirásková CSc

Pediatr. pro Praxi, 2006; 4: 190-193

Nevi are local developmental anomalies most frequently of hamartogenic origin, district of tissue that didn’t join the harmony of normal skin structure. They may exist from childbirth or develop anytime later, maybe isolated in forms of small spots, papules, lumps and lesions of different shape and even in forms of longitudinal stripes. Sometimes they occur obviously unilaterally and may resemble e.g. herpes zoster. The boundary between individual nevi and between nevi and benign tumors is not sharp. The differentiation is frequently very difficult. Nevi are usually divided to melanocytic and non-melanocytic. The purpose of the article is to...

Modern diagnosis and therapy of bronchial asthma in children

doc. MUDr. Vít Petrů CSc

Pediatr. pro Praxi, 2006; 4: 194-200

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in which many cells and cellular elements play a role. The chronic inflammation causes an associated increase in airway hyperresponsiveness that leads to reccurent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing, particulary at night or in the early morning. These episodes are usually associated with widespread but variable airflow obstruction that is often reversible either spontaneously or with treatment. Diagnosis of asthma in children can present a particularly difficult problem, largely because episodic wheezing and cough are among the most common symptoms encountered...

Chronic constipation - difficulty of treatment in childhood

doc. MUDr. Josef Sýkora Ph.D, MUDr. Jan Schwarz, MUDr. Konrad Siala MSc

Pediatr. pro Praxi, 2006; 4: 201-204

Organic versus functional disease should be explained clearly. Treatment of chronic constipation is mainly based on empirical experience. Treatment is stressful and might be long lasting. Therapy for chronic constipation is complex and includes patient and parent education concerning changes of life style preacautions, relief of impaction, softening of the stool and prevention of suppression of defecation reflex.

Some aspects in diagnostic and treatment of acute pyelonephritis

MUDr. Jiří Havránek

Pediatr. pro Praxi, 2006; 4: 205-206

Urinary tract infection in infants admonish to close attention for the opportunity of permanent kidney damage. Essential for diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis in sucklings and toddlers is a urine specimen obtained by suprapubic aspiration or transurethral bladder catheterization. The diagnosis of urinary tract infection cannot be etablished by a culture of urine collected in a bag. The strategies for the antibiotic treatment depend on private history, course of current disorder, clinician’s assesment of the illness, laboratory findings and last but not least on children’s ability to peroral intake.

Mgr. Zuzana Masopustová, Mgr. Lenka Lacinová Ph.D

Pediatr. pro Praxi, 2006; 4: 207-209

Childhood autism is a pervasive developmental disorder. Its first manifestations are usually displayed before the third year of child’s life. Autistic children don’t pay as much attention to other people, things hold by others and to being addressed by others as healthy children do. The impaired eye contact frequency and quality and the reduced or missing gesticulation are the significant factors of possible autism diagnosis. The paediatrician is usually the only professional who is the child of this age in contact with. If the paediatrician recognizes the first signs of autism and sends the child to special investigation he can speed up...

Tick-borne encephalitis and the others problems caused by ticks

MUDr. Zuzana Blechová

Pediatr. pro Praxi, 2006; 4: 210-214

All over the world ticks represent major way of transmission viral and bacterial diseases. In the epidemiological records, Czech republic reports the second highest rate of the tick-born encephalitis within Europe, 500–700 cases each year. When the infection occurs in childhood, its clinical picture is mostly not serious. Vaccination prevents infections effectively. Lyme disease of children can show only as a palse n. facialis. Crucial is the correct indication of antibiotic treatment because the serologic findings are often unspecific and without clinical corelation. This article stresses also other rare tick–spread infections that can...
