Adolescent period is characterized by great somatic, mental and hormonal changes. It is also time of acquiring of social status, first sexual relationships and preparation for future employment. The treatment of epilepsies at this age impinges all these aspects and therefore it is specific to certain extent. The following article is focused on fundamental features, specifics and therapeutic approaches of various epileptic syndromes of adolescence, and it is also briefly devoted to a question of contraception in girls and women with epilepsy, becoming very important just in this age.

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease of humans and animals caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. In our area it occurs very often. In this review article, we discuss with the issue of its clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, treatment. We also discuss issues of primary prevention as an important approach in the fight against this dangerous disease.

Adolescent age is a period when it is possible to continue mandatory, voluntary regular as well as recommended vaccination started in earlier childhood. In case recommended childhood vaccination has not yet been administered, it can be initiated in a form of a primary vaccination against several diseases. Solar radiation has always been on Earth, and it has life-giving effects on planet. Ultraviolet radiation and it’s component, but may also cause some negative reactions. Therefore we have to protect against this radiation. Sun protection is important throughout life and at the age of child particularly. After all, 50% of lifetime UV dose is obtained in childhood. In the article will be discussed possibilities of UV protection and their peculiarities in childhood.

The aim of this article is to inform about the prevention of dental caries in the office of general practitioner. Dental hygiene and diet are the fields where the general practitioner can significantly contribute to prevent tooth decay and its complications. There are summarized etiology, epidemiology and diagnosis of dental caries. There is a published a study that shows dental status of five-year patients admitted to the Department of Stomatology 2nd Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Motol and a decision support system for the treatment of these patients with an emphasis on the form of anesthesia.

Echocardiography is a noninvasive fundamental visualization method which has the ability to evaluate heart morphology and function in detail. Arterial hypertension may manifest with target organ damage (heart, vessels, kidneys, central nervous system, retina) even in children and adolescents. In the past the terminology bonding wasn’t even known yet, however since a long time it has always been natural desire of women to have closeby a newborn baby straight after birth giving. The aim of this thesis was to find out womens’ awareness of bonding. 2001 women participated this study (age 29,96 years ± 5,34 years), who have given birth in the recent three years. We report a 15-month-old boy suffering from double aortic arch (DAA) with a history of several severe airway infections with permanent inspiratory stridor. Both barium esophagogram and flexible bronchoscopy revealed a vascular impression of the trachea and the oesophagus. Final diagnosis was established by MRI of the aortic arch. All clinical symptoms and signs remitted after successful cardiosurgery.

Communication in the medical practice is an art at the level of a top acting performance, particularly with children and family members. There is an increasing number of emotionally isolated children and somatic complaints develop. The complaints are difficult to explain and interfere with. In primary care, examination by a specialist is helpful. He needs to have correct information. A possibility of consulting a specialist would be of use.
