Acute scrotum is an emergency that every pediatrician has to face. Differential diagnosis is difficult to distinguish even for an experiencedclinician. Diseases of the thyroid are the most frequent endocrinopathies in childhood and adolescence. The article starts with a brief reviewon examination methods in paediatric thyroidology and basic differential diagnostics of laboratory findings. Afterwards, it isfocussed mostly on autoimmune thyroid diseases and the latest global knowledge on therapy of chronic lymphocytic thyroiditisas well as Graves-Basedow thyrotoxicosis.

Influenza is an acute viral disease that is especially risky for the elderly and polymorbid patients, however, it affects all ages. The paper focuses on the analysis of online addictive behaviour among the players of the popular Minecraft game, using the quantitativeresearch conducted at the turn of 2016 and 2017 in the Czech Republic. Over 2 300 players participated in the survey (n = 2 331). Theauthors focus primarily on the phenomena of excessive play of this game on the psychological, physiological and behavioural plane.

Brain abscesses are life-threatening complications of purulent meningitis and they are rare in childhood. The treatment of brainabscesses demands a long-term application of antibiotics and often neurosurgical intervention. The present case report deals with a finding of various large cystic masses of the ovaries in two of our patients during the courseof this year; they sought medical attention for very nonspecific complaints and, in both cases, the diagnosis was made primarilyon the basis of ultrasonography. Surgical management was indicated in both patients.

The article describes the method of kangaroo care focusing on the application of this method to a neonatal intensive care unit forpreterm infants. It describes the method itself, its advantages for the child, parents and care staff. It also warns when it is not appropriateto practice this method. The kangaroo care method is simple, very effective, and helps the mother and the newborn child.

Testicular microlithiasis (TM) is a rare benign condition with presence of multiple small hyperechogenic microcalcifications inthe seminiferous tubules. Though the aetiology is unknown, TM has been described in association with a variety of urologicalconditions. We report the clinico-radiological features of a 11-year-old boy with bilateral testicular microlithiasis who underwentorchidopexy for left inguinal undescended testis. TM was diagnosed a few days after operation. Family history was negative ontesticular cancer, genital abnormalities and subfertiltiy.
