Pain is distressing sensory, emotional and mental experience accompanied by psychological or autonomic symptoms and change of behavior. It is therefore necessary to effectively treat pain using nonpharmacological and pharmacological methods. Tics are the most common movement disorder in childhood affecting up to 28% of children. The exact cause of tic is unknown, curative therapy does not exist. So far, a symptomatic pharmacotherapy has been the main treatment option. This paradigm has undergone a fundamental change in recent years, and the non-pharmacological method CBIT (Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics) has become the first-choice treatment. CBIT is at least as effective as drug therapy without the risk of adverse side-effects, moreover it can be effectively delivered online. Although CBIT is not very widespread in the Czech Republic, it should be gradually introduced...

Food allergy is at the onset of the atopic march and, in infancy, it primarily occurs in the form of cow's milk protein allergy. This allergic condition may have multiple organ manifestations which are often difficult to distinguish from other "functional" difficulties typical for this age. Assessment of the presumed immunological mechanism (IgE vs. non-IgE), properly chosen elimination diet with subsequent re-exposure to confirm the diagnosis, and close anthropometric monitoring of children with dietary restrictions are essential in the diagnostic-therapeutic process.

The goal of preventive eye care is early detection of critical refractive errors and subsequent correction with spectacles to allow the best possible vision development. In the Czech Republic, paediatricians and general practitioners for children and adolescents are the coordinators of paediatric care who are at the frontline of detection of various sensory impairments. The schedule of preventive eye check-ups by paediatricians and general practitioners for children and adolescents was derived from the standardized protocol of the Regulation No. 70/2012 Coll., on preventive check-ups, as amended by the Regulation No. 45/2021 Coll. of 29 January 2021,...

The COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic has brought many health problems that need to be solved, especially in acute stage of the disease. However, diagnoses belonging to the group of post-covid conditions are becoming more and more important. Cases of alopecia after overcoming COVID-19 disease such as telogen effluvium and alopecia areata have been described in the literature so far. In a short case report we demonstrate the development of a rare form of scarring alopecia in a 4-year-old patient after overcoming COVID-19 with mild course. We emphasize early diagnosis. Due to clinical similarity to other, nonscarring forms of alopecia, we point...

Vascular tumors in children are an important entity for the pediatricians to recognize and correctly diagnose. They may present at birth or develop at any point during infancy, childhood, or adolescence. Most are benign, but even benign lesions may have significant morbidity without proper intervention. Such an entity is undoubtedly pyogenic granuloma, also known as lobular capillary hemangioma. We present a 2.5-year-old boy whose diagnosis with histopathological verification was only made at the age of 28 months after repeated episodes of profuse bleeding from a fragile pyogenic granuloma.
